Headshot“Mr. Army Wife” Steve Schmitt loves his life.  As a former Soldier and now an Army spouse, Steve understands both sides to the military family.  His unique perspective on issues such as deployments, chores, and marriage, give him the ability to talk to most spouses in a way no one else can.  He loves meeting new spouses and helping them see all of the benefits to the military lifestyle.  He truly believes that it doesn’t have to be as hard as everyone says.

Steve grew up in Melbourne, FL and moved to Tampa after high school to attend the University of South Florida. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing.  He also has a Master’s in Religious Education from Liberty University.  This was earned with help from the Post 9/11 GI Bill.  Thanks Army!

Heather and Steve actually joined the Army together in May 2001.  They enlisted to help pay off student loans, and were already married when they went to basic training together.  They spent their first enlistment as Broadcast Journalists working at the American Forces Network Korea.  During that time, Steve was a News Reporter, Radio DJ, and Assignments Editor.  He described himself as a great broadcaster, but a terrible Soldier and after his enlistment was up, he left the Army.

Heather decided to stay in the Army and in May of 2005, Steve became Mr. Army Wife.  He already knew how to cook, but soon he would learn the art of dusting, vacuuming and laundry.  He would also learn how to fold clothes the way his wife likes her clothes folded.  Plus, no one can fold a King Size fitted sheet like Steve.

Steve has tried his hand at many different things since leaving the Army.  He was a morning show radio DJ on Current FM in Virginia Beach.  He’s been a bartender, restaurant shift leader, and even a stand up comic.  It is his role as a Domestic Engineer where he has flourished.  Steve now takes care of all the chores including mowing the yard and changing the kitty litter so that when his Soldier comes home from a long day at work she doesn’t have to worry about a thing.  (She still does, but she doesn’t have too.)

Steve also finds community with other military spouses essential.  He meets regularly with friends to discuss life; the good, the bad and the ugly.  He believes that people are brought into your life for a reason, and we are all made better by those interactions.  It is those interactions that help us grow in ways we never thought possible.  He loves meeting new people, talking with them about life, and helping others see the passions they have.  He wants to see everyone follow their dreams.

Mr. Army Wife is a writer, speaker, and entertainer.  When not hanging out with other military spouses he likes to golf, watch lots of movies, and cheer on his favorite sports teams.  He loves to cook and even works a few days a week as a Pampered Chef consultant.  This helps him teach others how to cook healthy, family friendly meals in less time so that no one is slaving away over a stove all day long.  As Steve put it, “My job is to help you have more time to play.  Play with your kids, with your husband or with yourself.  Just play.”

  1. Very entertaining! I can’t say that I met too many, if any, “Mr. Army Wives,” but it certainly would have been a refreshing change! My husband has been in for about 25 years now. His GI bill is paying for one of our daughter’s college educations…yahoo!
